Why Focusing on Your Wins Matters in the Sober Curious Journey

When you're exploring a sober curious lifestyle, it's easy to focus on what you haven’t done—drinks you did have, moments you felt stuck, the goals still unmet.

But here’s the truth: every small shift matters.
And acknowledging your wins—no matter how small—is one of the most powerful mindset tools you have.

What counts as a “win”?

  • You didn’t buy wine this week

  • You delayed that first drink

  • You had your first alcohol-free night in a long time

  • You noticed your urge and didn’t act on it immediately

  • You paused. You reflected. You made a conscious choice.

These are not small things.
They are everything.

Try this quick reflection exercise:

Before the month ends, look back through your diary or calendar and write down everything you achieved in July—sober-related or not.

Think:
– Cooked meals
– Got the washing done
– Said no when you meant no
– Helped someone
– Paid a bill
– Went for a walk
– Cut back on drinking
– Showed up, even when it was hard

Write it all down.
You’ll be amazed at what you’ve actually done—and how much better you feel when you honour it.

You don’t have to be perfect to make progress.
Start by noticing what’s already working.

You’re doing better than you think.
