What an Alcohol-Free Weekend in Daylesford Taught Me About Real Rest
Jul 16, 2025
Recently, my husband turned 50, and we celebrated with a quiet weekend away in Daylesford, Victoria. It was our first time back at one of our favourite spots since I became alcohol-free.
And honestly, it was one of the most peaceful, fulfilling weekends I’ve had in years.
When we arrived, we were offered welcome drinks. In the past, I wouldn’t have thought twice. I’d knock it back, probably have another, and spend the afternoon drinking. The day would blur. Dinner would be hazy. I’d spend the evening trying to feel "okay" again.
This time was different.
I asked for something alcohol-free. I felt clear. Calm. Grounded.
We explored the countryside. Walked around the lake. I noticed everything—the birds, the air, the colours, the way my mind felt sharp and still. Lunch was slow and delicious. I read by the fire. Had a hot bath. Slept deeply and woke up feeling fresh, clear and genuinely joyful.
No regrets. No fog. Just rest and presence.
This is what alcohol-free living really looks like. It’s not about missing out. It’s about making room for more — more connection, more memory, more meaning.
If you’re sober curious or quietly questioning your relationship with alcohol, I want you to know: you’re not alone. I’ve walked that road too.
I now support other midlife women to gently change their drinking—without shame or pressure. Just real, compassionate support.
My one-month coaching package, Change Your Drinking, is open now. It’s a private, personalised space to explore what freedom looks like for you.
